I'd vote no for this. Abuse problems as mentioned would be a problem.
If the option was to be able to make a level 20 ascended RP character of whichever class you are once you've beaten the game... then maybe I'd vote for that.
I will say that I sympathize because everyone think's my main is named Jim, not JIRN.

This has been mentioned before and a high cost like "change name only once per character" would seem most ideal (similar to changing your home server from america to europe).
Besides...even if you add someone to your friend list and they delete that character, you will still have them on the list and it shows what character they are currently on.

No because it would just be too confusing. Imagine you added xXWinterFrostXx to your friends list and the next day it disappears and December_Kiss appears... though I guess you could figure it out if only one player changed their name at a time.

Wouldn't be hard, wouldn't hurt anyone. Like in your guild/friends window, they may have joined/been added as Thisguy, but are on as(or, ar now known as) Thatguy.
If yer a hardcore rpger, it could be a useful tool in your story. But I have yet to see any of those.

As i posted on that other thread, YES! i really hope this change is made. A limit of only one name change per character will eliminate the possibility of scammers using this tool for bad purposes

Hmm, yes.
Yes ONLY if we can have, say, 1 name change per Chapter. Excessive name changing is ridiculous. It also the defeats the point of making a customized character.
I agree that a lot of people don't spend time on character creation and do stupid things. However, I'd like to address that this thread is not about changing your hair colour, but changing your NAME. It's not unnatural to get tired of a name, even when you did spend a while thinking of it.

1. Yes, /signed. After all, you can change your real name legally in the United States, so why not in a game too?

Pros: The people that dont like there names can change it.
Cons: The people that dont care you dont like your name have to wonder why your name changed.
I like my characters name, but Id love to change face/hair/skintone on them but cant.
With a proper system in place everyone should get what they want in character customiztion.

Why the hell do people feel the need to bring up what happens in MMOs when topics are discussed about GW? This isn't an MMO.
I think it would be convinient if we had a name change function. But, knowing that I don't have a name change function, I actually spend time researching mythical names or toss around ideas when I create a character, instead of throw something together, knowing I will likely use that character for years to come.
I would rather have a hair style changer, or even be able to change facial looks rather than change my name, because I tolk the time to make a good one to begin with. But after my elementist reaches 30, it is time for a hair cut, lord, I knew that there wasn't a hair change function, but honestly, hair isn't ment to be the same your entire life.
Perhaps a useful option would be to transfer all of your obtained skills from one character to a new one. This would allow you to make a new character altogether with new name, look, even alternate classes, and retain all skills learned on all classes from your previous character. With the advent of birthday gifts, players may be even more centimental about their characters, and perhaps character age can be passed along to.
Another useful option would be a syncronize quest, which would grant you all skills unlocked or available to your other characters. This way, after you have played through with several characters, you would not need to spend skill points and endless amounts of gold to learn all the skills you've obtained on other classes. Even if you can only syncronize skills from your other characters which are also syncronized, it would be a well worth reward for a great feat, like all missions and bonuses in prophesies, or gold status on all missions in Factions.
I don't think name changing is a bad idea, but I like to explore better options rather than micro assess a situation. I would have to vote No, since many better solutions could be added, a working idea that isn't the best isn't a good one, it is better to pursue more elaborate options which would provide for several interest rather than just one.

Umm no... you dont think when you make your char too bad..
I think that someone asked Gaile if this could happen and she said no only cuz there are some people that could abuse this or somehow find a way to.

I gotta say no. This just sounds like a big wide open door for scammers. Besides, names are definetive. You can't go and just randomly change your name all the time, because no one would know who you are!
